The Best Investment You Can Make for Your Grandchildren

Making the Call for Mobile Security

(NewsUSA) РWith the wealth of Internet activity and connected communications offered by smartphones and tablets, our laptops and desktop computers are practically becoming pass̩.
This means your “cell phone” isn’t just a phone anymore, your tablet isn’t just for reading the latest romance novels, and it’s giving software and security experts reason to worry. The more you rely on smartphones and tablets for daily Internet activities, the more you should consider equipping those devices with security software. After all, if smartphones are more computer than phone, shouldn’t they be equipped with the same software protection as computers?
“We have found that users simply don’t think about viruses and malware posing a threat to their phones and tablets,” says Ann Biddlecom, product marketing director for Kaspersky Lab, an authority on antivirus protection and information security. “Not only are these mobile devices unprotected from viruses, they’re also much more likely to be lost or stolen, and security software helps you track them down.”
“Are Internet connections any more secure on an iPhone or Android? Absolutely not. Nowadays, almost everyone has at least two different digital devices that they use to connect to the Internet, but we’ve found that at least one is unprotected,” Biddlecom adds. “Since infected files on your PC or Mac can be transferred to your phone and tablet, or vice versa, it makes the most sense to get antivirus protection for all platforms, operating systems and devices.”
A recent Nielsen survey reported that more than one-third of the U.S. population — approximately 117 million people — regularly surf the Internet from a mobile device. With so many people getting online using two or more Internet-connected devices, now is the time to make mobile device security a “must have” for your digital life.
To protect all of your digital devices effectively, remember these three rules.
1. Smartphones and tablets are really handheld computers — all the same security precautions apply, like checking the authenticity of websites, links and emails.
2. You’re much more likely to misplace these mobile computing devices — just like a set of car keys, the smaller they are, the easier they are to lose?and you don’t want access to your email left sitting in the lost-and-found bin.
3. Install a multi-device security software from a reputable provider. Products like Kaspersky ONE Universal Security are a veritable one-stop-shop for personal security, complete with the ability to protect any combination of digital devices.

First Step Toward Career Success: Degree Completion

Earning a bachelor’s degree can be a valuable step toward career success. Fewer than 5 percent of bachelor’s degree-holders over the age of 25 are unemployed, compared to a national unemployment rate that is over 9 percent.
Despite the benefits of degree programs, many students do not complete the process due to perceived barriers, such as a full-time job, family commitments or worries about achieving a balance between their personal and professional lives. Others are eager to start a career and make money.
Although they may think they are getting a “head start” on their careers, many of these students will find that former classmates who completed their degrees have quickly caught up with them professionally and are better equipped to achieve longevity and advancement in their career.
“Job seekers drastically improve their chances of getting hired by developing what I call ‘the full suite’ –skills, experience and education,” said Joyce Barden, CPA, CBM, senior professor at DeVry University. “It all starts with education.”
Regardless of how long you have been out of the classroom, completing a degree program helps to ensure a competitive edge in the job market.
Here are four compelling reasons to re-commit to education and complete your degree:
Open doors to your future.
A bachelor’s degree could be the ticket to a new career or a stepping stone to advancement in your current field. By completing your degree, you will master a skill set and possibly uncover hidden strengths.
Increase your salary.
Last year, full-time workers with college degrees earned 83 percent more than those with only a high-school diploma.
Build your network.
Returning to school will help you meet new people, develop potential business partnerships and explore new avenues for career growth. Everyone we allow into our network can offer new ideas that will help us to grow personally and professionally.
There is a program that works for you.
Whether you take online courses or attend classes on campus, you should know that many schools are committed to accommodating students’ busy schedules.
Such schools often offer integrated programs that allow full-time or part-time students to learn at their own pace through an accelerated track or a more traditional program.
Annette R. Uncangco, MS, director of career services at DeVry University, recommends finding a school that offers flexible scheduling options that allow students to complete their education while balancing current job and family commitments.
Advancements in education have helped to remove many previous barriers to going back to school, allowing many to complete the education they started. Despite your past, it’s never too late to invest in your future.

Using the Art of Enchantment for Career Success

Many of us have career dreams we aspire to achieve, but often we are left feeling daunted by how to turn those dreams into reality.
Whether your goal is to land your ideal job upon graduating from college or earn that promotion you have been eyeing in your current job, it’s vital to have the support of those around you for your cause.
Garnering the support of others is possible but takes effort, according to Guy Kawasaki, best-selling author and former chief evangelist for Apple Computer. He calls this process “enchantment.”
Kawasaki’s latest book, “Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds and Actions,” explains how one can attain and utilize enchantment to convince people to dream the same dream that you do.
“Enchantment is more than simply manipulating others to help get your way,” says Kawasaki. “The goal is long-lasting support that can be mutually beneficial – not a one-time sale or transaction.”
“To achieve enchantment, individuals must build a strong foundation to implement it,” says Kawasaki. “That foundation is built on three pillars: likability, trustworthiness and a great cause.”
Likability
As the old saying goes, you never get a second chance at a first impression. The first step of enchantment is to get people to like you. You must accept others in order for them to accept you.
Identifying passions you share with others will help to break down barriers and develop better relationships, which ultimately makes you more likable.
Trustworthiness
Deserving and gaining the trust of others is crucial for enchantment to occur. To earn the trust of others, it’s vital to exhibit both knowledge and competence, especially in the workplace.
Knowledge means you have expertise, thanks to your education and experience. Competence means that you have progressed beyond knowing what to do, to doing what you know.
In some cases, individuals may have to go back to school to earn an additional degree to gain knowledge and competence in order to develop or deepen trustworthiness.
“If you must further your education, research schools thoroughly to find the program that fits your specific goals,” says Kawasaki.
For those looking to gain career-specific knowledge, DeVry University is an example of a school which provides actual hands-on coursework, with many classes taught by professors who are actively working in the same fields they teach.
Great Cause
Finally, you must ensure you have an enchanting cause. As an employee or job seeker, your cause is you!
It’s important to carefully review your qualifications in order to set yourself up for success. Kawasaki recommends reviewing your cause against the following criteria:
Deep
Intelligent
Complete
Empowering
Elegant
Once you’ve assessed your cause, it’s time to tell your story. “The goal is to immerse people and captivate their interest,” says Kawasaki. “Don’t be afraid to make it personal. In fact, it’s essential that you do.”

How to Shop Healthy And Stay on Budget

(NewsUSA) – Modern grocery shoppers are more informed and educated than ever before, and many are doing a better job of avoiding foods with artificial ingredients and and/or added sugars. Yet, cost and convenience still play a large role in determining what ends up in the grocery cart, so a balancing act is on display in the aisles of today’s modern grocery store.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans point to the fact that many adults lack essential nutrients like calcium, fiber, magnesium and vitamins A, C and D.
Fresh produce and fruit juice can fill the vitamin gap, and frozen juice concentrates can provide an affordable source of vitamins in a convenient, family-friendly form.
In fact, healthy eats that don’t cost a fortune allow families on a budget to increase their nutrient intake, thus lowering their risk for various health conditions.
“Research shows that good nutrition can help lower people’s risk for many chronic diseases,” says Christine Pfeiffer, the lead researcher in the Division of Laboratory Sciences in the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health.
A vitamin D deficiency, for instance, can increase the risk for diseases such as osteoporosis, heart disease and even the seasonal flu. Pfeiffer adds, “… higher deficiency rates in certain age and ethnic groups are a concern and need additional attention.”
Innovative juice manufactures like Old Orchard Brands are helping to bridge the vitamin gap with better-for-you, affordable options. Its new line of Fruit & Veggie frozen concentrates combines carrot, sweet potato and beets together with peach, mango, blueberry and other juice favorites to provide a full serving of fruit and vegetables in each glass; and each serving costs less than $.50. The leading juice manufacturer also offers Old Orchard for Kids, a bottled line of juices featuring 50 percent less sugar, just 60 calories and the full recommended daily amount of vitamin C with each serving.
Today’s consumers are fortunate to find a number of new grocery options that don’t require a compromise between affordability and nutrition.

How to Display Proper Hygiene in Public

(NewsUSA) – You would think that public hygiene protocol would be a standard, taught in kindergarten, reviewed in middle school, and essential for your college diploma. Yet, more often than we care to admit, both knowing and remembering social “dos” and “don’ts” proves a challenge for even the best of us.
Stay classy and clean with a few simple tips on how to display good public hygiene.
Cover your mouth
This one is so simple we feel it deserves the first spot on the list. Hearing you sneeze or hearing you cough is one thing. Asking someone to feel you sneeze or feel you cough is entirely another. Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing. Keep your hands clean by using your upper arm as your shield.
One tissue does not conquer all
Feeling under the weather? Looking and feeling your best can be truly difficult when your sinuses are working against you. Do your best to show your care for public hygiene by following the little guidelines you can still muster doing, like washing your hands regularly, using hand sanitizer, and refusing to reuse and reuse the same tissue while public.
Watch for bad habits
Unfortunate habits, like biting your nails, playing with your hair, or picking at your face can work against that clean, sophisticated image you desire. These habits are also a way that unwanted grime, oils and bacteria can spread from different areas on your body and eventually onto any object you touch. Do your best to keep your hands away from the top half of your body whenever possible.
Launder
Laundry is no fun, but there are few public hygiene no-nos worse than dirty clothes. Pick one day of the week to be laundry day and stick to it. Invest in a dependable iron and ironing board, and carry a stain remover in your purse or bag.
Use FLASR
For smokeless tobacco users, a small, spill-proof portable spittoon is an essential and the ultimate display of good public hygiene. Fortunately, for these individuals, there’s FLASR, an Atlanta-based company that specializes in exactly that. The FLASR spittoon has a chic design that is pocket-size and features a secure locking mechanism to avoid messy mishaps.

New App Bridges Gap Between News and Social Media

New App Bridges Gap Between News and Social Media

(NewsUSA) – We live in a digital world that is constantly evolving. Those of us who were born prior to the dot-com bubble were able to witness firsthand how technology transformed the way we lived our day-to-day lives. Then, in the early 2000s, the rise of social media forever changed how we interact with one another. Entire industries were forced to adapt to this new era. There is one industry that is still in the early days of its evolution: the news industry.A recent poll by the American Press Institute revealed that 85 percent of millennials say keeping up with the news is important to them. With growing millennial interest and the recent increase in digital news consumption, it’s no surprise that some of the biggest social media companies are trying to break into the news industry. This new frontier of digital media has companies like Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter racing to apply the news to their existing platforms. The truth is, the news needs a platform of its own.Enter Rantt, the social network for news. This startup aims to inform and inspire the masses.Zak Ali, co-founder and CEO, believes the recent surge of people engaging with the news online has created a new genre: social news."When you read a story that truly impacts you, one that you can’t ignore, you feel the need to interact with it," he said.Backing Ali’s assertion is a Pew Research poll that found 46 percent of people active on social networks have discussed a news-related issue or event. The problem, Ali said, is that the scattered nature of the Internet forces people to navigate among many different sources to read credible news stories and to share their opinions."Too often will you see really well thought-out posts buried beneath a mountain of unrelated content. Your voice matters. You shouldn’t feel like a bystander while reading the news. On Rantt, you don’t have to," Ali said.Rantt delivers the latest news from top news sources. By tailoring the feed to your interests, Rantt aims to provide only the content that’s important to you. Not only can you discover news stories, you are encouraged to speak about them and publish pieces of your own."With Rantt," Ali said, "you aren’t just reading the news…you are becoming a part of it."For more information, visit www.rantt.com to download the app from the Apple App Store.

"57dffa26c48b6"/> Around 75 percent of physical assaults are to the head, neck and mouth, resulting in substantial dental injuries. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation’s Give Back a Smile (GBAS) program restores damaged front teeth for survivors of domestic abuse.
Since the inception of the Give Back a Smile program, more than 1,500 survivors of domestic violence have received life-changing smile restorations all across the United States. There are currently more than 70 survivors of domestic or sexual violence receiving smile restorations. These services are provided free through the GBAS network of volunteer cosmetic dentists and other dental professionals.
How Give Back a Smile Works
1. Domestic violence survivors who have suffered dental injuries in the smile zone from abusive intimate partners, family members or as a result of sexual assault, can contact GBAS toll-free at 800.773.GBAS (4227).

Raise Your Spirits With The Pool Boys

You know what’s even more contagious than a cough or sneeze? A deep, rumbling belly laugh that leaves your sides aching and your eyes streaming. Laughter isn’t only the best medicine, it boosts immunity, lowers stress hormones and helps prevent heart disease.
If laughter is what the doctor ordered, patients must start getting in line to see the latest film from the creators of the uproarious American Pie franchise, “The Pool Boys.” As encouraged by the magazine Scientific American Mind, laughter actually reduces stress by easing tension and relaxing muscles, which keeps you more focused and productive. Your daily dose of laughter is as important as your dose of fiber or vitamin C.
Well, science confirms it: watching comedies and succumbing to relaxation are necessary for your health! So treat yourself to the playful mischief of “The Pool Boys.” The rated-R flick stars Matthew Lillard, “The Descendants”; Brett Davern, the budding actor from MTV’s hot show “Awkward.”; and “Twilight” villainess Rachelle Lefevre.
Innocent college student Alex (Davern) spends a summer in Los Angeles with his savvy, pool boy cousin Roger (Lillard). Since the pool boy business isn’t raking in the cash, the cousins concoct a scheme to start a brothel. Miraculously, they have access to the perfect mansion and plenty of hot chicks to make it work. But like most businesses with little foundation, criminal activity and dirty money – mischief abounds.
Roseanne’s Tom Arnold graces the screen with a crass cameo, surrounded by a series of other comedic hijinks. As business heats up and threatens to boil over, viewers see how far people will go to make money. The escort business predates Ponzi schemes by millenia, although the film’s dominatrices and pool parties are a nice modern touch.
Rest your lips now as the ensuing laughter could lead to jaw soreness half-way into “The Pool Boys.” To watch a trailer or view all “now playing” locations, visit www.thepoolboysmovie.com, or go to www.facebook.com/thepoolboys.com.

China's first-ever space lab will die a fiery death in Earth's atmosphere toward the end of next year, Chinese officials said.
The 9.4-ton (8.5 metric tons) Tiangong-1 spacecraft is currently intact and orbiting Earth at an altitude of 230 miles (370 kilometers), according to Wu Ping, deputy director of China's Manned Space Engineering office. That's a bit lower than the International Space Station, which usually stays about 250 miles (400 km) above the planet's surface.
Tiangong-1 will likely fall back to Earth in the second half of 2017, and its demise shouldn't cause problems here on the ground, Wu said. [Gallery: Tiangong 1, China's First Space Laboratory]

p Emmys 2016 'In Memoriam' Snubs Include Christina Grimmie, Chyna and More

To much disbelief, the Emmys snubbed a handful of Hollywood's famous faces, including singer Christina Grimmie and wrestler Chyna.

Patton Oswald's post emmy celebration.

 Here's a quote from Patton,
“I’m going to start telling jokes again soon. And writing. And acting in stuff and making things I like and working with friends on projects and do all the stuff I was always so privileged to get to do before the air caught fire around me and the sun died,” he wrote. “It’s all I knew how to do before I met Michelle. I don’t know what else I’m supposed to do now without her. And not because, ‘It’s what Michelle would have wanted me to do.’ For me to even presume to know what Michelle would have wanted me to do is the height of arrogance on my part. That was one of the many reasons I so looked forward to growing old with her. Because she was always surprising me. Because I never knew what she’d think or what direction she’d go.”

Trump Surrogates Push Narrative that Clinton Started 'Birtherism'

Donald Trump's surrogates and leading supporters on Sunday were pushing a narrative that the Republican candidate started two days earlier when he declared that Hillary Clinton's 2008 campaign "started the birther controversy," meaning the false notion that President Obama was born outside the United States.
On CBS News’ Face the Nation on Sunday, Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway pushed the claim that so-called "birtherism" began with the Clinton 2008 campaign by invoking the words of former Clinton campaign manager Patti Sollis Doyle.
“Even Patti Solis Doyle, who was Hillary Clinton's campaign manager in 2008 ... until she was fired by Hillary Clinton, admitted on Friday ... that she said, yes, these are her words: There was a volunteer in Iowa who was pushing this,” Conway said.
Sollis Doyle, in an interview on CNN, said a volunteer coordinator had forwarded an email promoting the birther conspiracy. But she said that person was immediately fired and that the birther conspiracy theory was never promoted by Clinton herself.
